Related Public Safety Experience
With 36 years of experience in design, installation and support services, PRC Public Sector, Inc. is the leader in the field of public safety systems and the world's largest provider of CAD/RMS solutions. Approximately 125 PRC CAD installations in Canada, the United States, and Ireland serve more than 66 million people, 24 hours a day. Installed, integrated CAD systems include 87 with Enhanced 911; 78 with Mobile Data Terminals (MDTs), laptops, or status terminals; six with mapping; and four with Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL). Approximately 60 installations support multiple jurisdictions, some having more than 100 police, fire and emergency medical service departments.

The following projects substantiate PRC's proven track record and ability to successfully design, integrate, and support a variety of public safety and criminal justice efforts. In 1963, the St. Louis, Missouri Police Department awarded PRC one of the first records management systems in the U.S. In 1978, PRC implemented the National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (NLETS) linking all 50 states, and in 1998 completed an extensive hardware and software upgrade of that system. In 1991, PRC was awarded the El Paso, Texas Intelligence Center Modernization Project, followed by awards of the FBI's Identification, Tasking and Networking (ITN) segment of the IAFIS project, the U.S. Department of Justice message switch replacement project, and criminal justice information systems for the states of New Mexico and Mississippi, as well as a web-centric Investigative Management System for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. PRC Public Sector Inc. successfully installed the first Altaris® CAD system for the Police and Fire departments of the City of Chicago, with more than 108 workstation consoles at the Operations Center and a data radio system that supports usage by more than 3000 mobile and portable terminals at one time. PRC Public Sector, Inc. has also installed a statewide CAD system for the Virginia State Police that consists of CAD system servers at each of eight division dispatch centers, data sharing between systems, and a common Management Information System.

Some of these projects are described below to illustrate PRC's ability to successfully design, integrate and support large-scale projects in the public safety and criminal justice arena.

PRC has been at the forefront of applying new tools and methodologies to public safety systems, leading the industry in a number of areas:

  • First to develop a system to support multiple remote dispatch centers from a simple computer configuration;
  • First to provide a CAD system integrated with a mapping system;
  • First to develop disk shadowing and processor monitoring software for public safety systems. This technology was used for the National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (NLETS), a U.S. law enforcement administrative message switching facility, and has been deployed in many of our CAD systems;
  • First to offer three different approaches to user interface: CRT terminals, personal computers, and large screen workstations;
  • One of the first to provide a fully functioning Records Management System;
  • One of the first to integrate laptops with CAD and RMS systems.
  • A leader in integrating CAD systems with AVL, including three different AVL technologies: Motorola's LORAN-C based AVL system; ETAK's navigational technology; and Trimble Navigation's global positioning satellite (GPS) system;
